Westhampnett Volunteers

Westhampnett Volunteers were formed in 2012 in response to the lack of funding from WSCC to carry out regular servicing of footpaths, litter clearance etc, and the increasing cost of hiring contractors.
The footpath on the south side of Stane Street was particularly heavily overgrown with brambles, nettles and overhanging branches so much so we teamed up with Exact, West Sussex Drug and Alcohol Service users project. These people give their time free to such groups as ours.
We applied for and received £3,000 from CDC's New Homes Bonus scheme to buy equipment such as strimmers, hedge cutters, mower and a range of hand tools.
We regularly cut the footpath running from Westerton to Maudlin and to the Rolls Royce roundabout, keep the Claypit Lane and Stane Street footpaths clear as well as grass cutting and litter-picking when necessary.
We are a group of about 10 ladies and gents and meet when the need arises and share the duties of mowing between us.
Volunteers are covered by the Council's insurance and risk assessments are undertaken. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided.
New volunteers are always welcome to join our friendly team.
If you are interested in joining, please ring Bob Holman on 01243 774381.
